A Family Kitchen and Gathering Place

In this beautiful cathedral-ceilinged Amherst, NH, kitchen, the homeowner wanted to retain the historic character of the antique home. They also wanted to create a space that would serve a busy, growing family as well as be a spot for impromptu get togethers with friends. Wooden beams, original to the home, glass-fronted white cabinets along with a stainless steel commercial range and a paneled refrigerator pull the look together.  The 9-foot walnut-topped island is the centerpiece of this design. It is beautiful, warm and functional, housing a second undercounter fridge for extra drinks easily accessible by children. 

The barn-red pantry cabinet provides the storage in this kitchen. Besides drawers for cereal boxes and shelves for snacks, there is also a wine rack inside.
